Last updated 9 October 2026 · Version 1.1 (in the app, the short version is called terms-3). The version history is at the end.
The short version
- Taxdose helps you prepare your tax records and drafts. It isn't tax advice, and it never sends anything to HMRC. You check each figure and send it yourself.
- Your records are on your phone, locked with your passphrase. Nobody, including us, can recover them without it, so keep a backup.
- Taxdose Pro is £49.99 a year. New subscribers pay £29.99 for the first year, where Apple or Google offer it to you. It renews automatically each year until you cancel in your App Store or Google Play settings. You can cancel within 14 days of first subscribing and get your money back (section 6).
- Your first PDF is free, and everything you've made stays yours with or without Pro.
- Taxdose is for adults (18 or over). Please don't add documents that identify patients.
- Your legal rights as a consumer aren't affected by anything in these terms.
1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Praelion Ltd ("we", "us"). We're a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17209225. Our registered office is First Floor, Swan Buildings, 20 Swan Street, Manchester, M4 5JW, United Kingdom. The terms cover your use of the Taxdose app.
- If you got Taxdose from the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies (apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula). These terms add to it.
- If you got Taxdose from Google Play, Google Play's terms of service also apply.
- Apple and Google aren't responsible for Taxdose or its support. We are.
Our privacy notice explains what happens to your information.
Who can use Taxdose. You must be 18 or over. Taxdose is made for doctors working in the UK and preparing their own UK tax records.
2. What Taxdose does
Taxdose helps UK doctors:
- keep tax records (payslips, P60s, invoices, receipts, work costs and mileage) on their phone;
- see what doctors can usually claim;
- prepare drafts of a P87 job-expenses claim and a Self Assessment return.
3. What Taxdose doesn't do
- It isn't tax advice. Taxdose is a preparation tool. It doesn't know your full circumstances. We aren't your tax agent or adviser, and we never deal with HMRC for you. If you're unsure, ask HMRC or a qualified tax adviser.
- It doesn't send anything to HMRC. You check, sign and send each claim or return yourself.
- It doesn't cover everything. For example, it doesn't cover Scottish income tax rates, partnerships, companies, property income or foreign income. Where it can't handle something, it tells you rather than guessing. Check what's covered before you rely on a draft.
- Its tax rules haven't yet been reviewed by an independent tax professional.
4. You check every figure
- Taxdose reads documents on your phone and, if you choose, with AI. Reading by phone or AI can be wrong. A figure can be misread, missed or put in the wrong place.
- Nothing counts until you confirm it. AI readings are marked "check it" until you do.
- You're responsible for what you send to HMRC. Check every figure in a draft against your original documents before you use it.
- HMRC accepting a claim or return doesn't mean HMRC agrees with how it was worked out.
5. Your records and your passphrase
- Your records are stored on your phone, encrypted with your passphrase. We don't hold a copy.
- Nobody, including us, can reset your passphrase or recover your records without it. Keep your passphrase safe, and make encrypted backups regularly, somewhere other than your phone.
- You're responsible for keeping your phone, passphrase and backups secure, and for keeping the records HMRC asks you to keep, for as long as it asks.
- "Delete all data" deletes everything on the phone and can't be undone. Backups saved elsewhere aren't affected.
6. Taxdose Pro
There's one plan: Taxdose Pro.
- Price: £49.99 a year. New subscribers pay £29.99 for their first year, then £49.99 a year, renewing automatically. This first-year price is an introductory offer: Apple and Google allow one per person and decide who is eligible, so if you've had it before you'll pay £49.99 from the start. The price Apple or Google show you when you confirm is the price that applies. Prices include VAT, and there are no other charges.
- Free, always: adding and reading documents, reviewing records, questions and "what you can claim", journeys you add yourself, backups, exports, and opening or sharing any PDF you've already made. Your first PDF is free.
- What Pro adds:
- making new P87 or Self Assessment PDF versions after your first;
- automatic mileage recording, including one-tap journeys;
- AI reading of hard documents, up to 200 pages per tax year (6 April to 5 April), as fair use.
- One subscription covers every open tax year.
- Fair use of AI pages. The 200 pages don't roll over to the next tax year. One subscription's pages are shared by the phones it's used on (up to 5 at a time). We may also set daily limits to stop misuse or protect the service. AI reading depends on outside services, so we can't promise it'll always be available. If it isn't, the rest of Taxdose keeps working.
How billing works
- Apple or Google sells and bills your subscription, using the account you subscribe with. We never see your card details.
- It renews automatically each year unless you cancel. On the App Store, cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current year. On Google Play, cancel before the renewal date.
- To cancel: on iPhone, go to Settings › your name › Subscriptions. On Android, go to Google Play › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions. Deleting the app doesn't cancel your subscription.
- Changing your mind (14 days). Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their refund policies, and these include your legal right to cancel within 14 days of first subscribing. Ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, or Google through Google Play's "Request a refund" help page. If you subscribed on Google Play and need help, email hello@praelion.com.
- Other refunds: Apple or Google handle refunds, under their own rules. This doesn't affect your legal rights.
- Restore purchases brings your subscription back on a new phone that uses the same Apple or Google account. A subscription bought on iPhone doesn't carry over to Android, or the other way round.
If your subscription ends, nothing is locked away. Your records, documents, backups, exports, mileage log and every PDF you've made stay yours. Only new PDF versions, starting automatic recording and new AI readings wait for a subscription.
Price changes. If the renewal price changes, Apple or Google will tell you before it applies, as their rules require, and you can cancel before then. Where their rules require it, a price rise won't apply unless you agree to it.
New UK subscription rules. The government plans new rules for subscriptions under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (expected in 2027). They include reminders before renewal and a cooling-off period after a yearly renewal. When they apply, we'll follow them, together with Apple and Google, and update these terms.
7. Using Taxdose fairly
You agree:
- to use Taxdose for your own tax records;
- not to add documents that identify patients, and not to send them for AI reading;
- not to try to get round the subscription, the AI allowance or the app's security, or to misuse our server;
- not to copy, reverse-engineer or resell the app, except where the law allows it.
If an install misuses AI reading (for example by trying to get round the limits, or sending content that isn't a tax document), we may stop AI reading for it straight away. Everything else in Taxdose keeps working. If you think we got it wrong, email hello@praelion.com and a person will look at it.
8. Changes and availability
- We may update Taxdose to fix problems, follow tax rule changes or improve it. Some features may change.
- If a change would make Taxdose Pro significantly worse for you (for example, removing a feature you pay for), we'll tell you in the app beforehand. You can cancel. If you're part way through a paid year, ask Apple or Google for a refund of the time left; for Google Play subscriptions, we can refund it ourselves if you email us.
- If we change these terms in a way that matters, the app will show you the new terms and ask you to agree before you carry on.
9. Our responsibility to you
- Your legal rights. If you're a consumer, the law gives you rights that these terms don't affect. For example, digital content must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. Citizens Advice can tell you more.
- What we never limit. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
- Damage to your device or other content. If Taxdose damages your phone or other digital content because we didn't use reasonable care and skill, we'll repair the damage or pay you fair compensation.
- Your tax return is yours. Taxdose prepares drafts that you check and send yourself. So we aren't responsible for:
- HMRC's decisions about your tax;
- tax, interest or penalties you have to pay, or refunds you don't get, because of a figure you sent, information you didn't give, or a case Taxdose told you it doesn't cover;
- how and when you file.
- Things outside our control. We aren't responsible for losses caused by a lost or forgotten passphrase, a lost phone with no backup, or files you share with others.
- Losses we couldn't foresee. We're only responsible for losses that were foreseeable when you agreed to these terms.
- If you use Taxdose for your business (for example, locum work), we aren't liable for loss of profit, business, income or opportunity.
- Our cap. Apart from what we never limit and damage to your device or content, our total liability to you for everything to do with Taxdose is limited to the amount you paid for Taxdose in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Ending these terms
You can stop using Taxdose at any time by deleting it and cancelling any subscription through Apple or Google.
We may end these terms, or stop AI reading for an install, if you seriously or repeatedly break them. If we stop AI reading because of misuse, the rest of Taxdose keeps working, and your records stay on your phone.
11. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you're a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts, and your local consumer law still protects you.
If something goes wrong, please talk to us first at hello@praelion.com. Most things can be sorted out quickly. If we can't agree, the Citizens Advice consumer helpline can tell you about your options.
